1. Where do your members come from?

We’re from 18 different communities from Toledo to Dearborn

2. Does it cost to belong?

Yes, monthly dues are collected to help pay for our director, music, costumes, rent, coaching, etc.

3. Do you meet all year long?

Yes

 


4. Is there a place for a voice like mine?

Yes. Barbershop consists of 4 different voice parts, depending on your vocal range.

5. Who are your members?

None of us are professionals. We are nurses, teachers, clerks, students, housewives, therapists, hygienists -- and singers!

6. What is a rehearsal like?

We get on the risers and do warm-ups, practice some aspect of vocal production, learn new music or practice “old”. All through this learning process there seems to be lots of time to laugh.

7. Must I know how to read music?

No, learning CDs are provided

8. Must I have prior choir or chorus experience?

No - it’s helpful, but not necessary.

9. What kind of music do you sing?

Old songs, new songs, show tunes, spirituals, novelty, patriotic, swing. Click Listen to hear us.

10. Where do you perform?

Throughout the Monroe and Downriver area, as well as in Ohio. We perform for both private and community affairs.

11. Are there age limits for joining?

No, though if you are under 18, you'll need an adult sponsor.

 


12. Must I audition?

No.  We will listen to you and give you feedback on whether you are able to perform at the necessary level for success.  Prospective members are screened by the Music Team, and prospective members are voted on by membership based on the recommendations of the Music Team.

13. Are there attendance requirements?

You are expected to attend each rehearsal on time and prepared. Of course health, vacations and job requirements can be taken into consideration.

14. What if I find that I must miss several rehearsals?

It will be your responsibility to get in touch with your section leader to find out what you have missed, and what you can do to keep up with the rest of the chorus.

15. How much time does Sweet Adelines take?

Involvement in areas such as administration, costuming and show production, for example are voluntary. However, in addition to regular rehearsals you must also be willing to commit time for personal preparation, as well as for performances, contest and travel time. We believe that hard work results in excellence.
